Criminal Intent

So, there are a bunch of theories kicking around about who is stealing Ms. Engelfried's pencils. Speaking from personal experience, I know there are a bunch of repeat pencil borrowers in my classes. So who is stealing in Room 112?

Leave your ideas in the COMMENTS Section, and let's track down this nefarious nogoodnick!!!

Yes! Please help me! Do you think it is any of the people I suspect? Is it someone else? Why? Please post your comment listing your name first and who you think committed the crime. You MUST describe why and link it to a mathematical process. -- Ms. Engelfried

I promise...I didn't do it! I do most of my math in my head (since I am so "brainy").

Symmetry or probability - which mathematical theory should be used to solve this crime? I think a little of both would need to be used. Does everyone agree?

Maybe Ms. Engelfried is losing her marbles?!?!

Math was used in solving the crime by using probability. The finger print we got could only match up to 1 of 36 prints, 1/36.

The stratedgy used was the process of elimination. Once you know that the suspect is in a certen class, you can then find out who the thief is.
I know it is someone in Ms Engelfried's 6 period class is the thief.

math was used in solving the pencil crime by finding the probability.

da strategy dat i used is process of elimination because, i thank its the easiest way to solve prolems like dis.

I think dat mr. pastorious is the theif because, he's the only person that never has pencils, and now all of a sudden he has a whole beaker full of new pencils. Ms. Engelfried's pencils are missing now and she is trying to find out who took them. Now i s say that mr. pastorious has them because, i dont think dat mrs. ballack would take the because i only see her wit pens. i know that mr. daly uses mechanical pencils. so it has to be mr. pastourious. the finger prints that i found waz "left little." block 6 group 1.

i think that mr p. did it because he was not mentioned a lot except for once or twice tony

I know who committed the crime. The question is do you????????.

The real suspect was fingerprinted yesterday during class. Will you turn yourself in? Or do we need to send the case to America's Most Wanted with John Walsh......

i used ny brain....i used process of elimination. Because i know that mr daly doesnt "need" any pencils...especially since he gives me some almost every class... mr pastorious never has pencils for me..but he always has a filled up desk....

Yes, i think it is Mr. Pastorious. NO, I dont think it is anyone else. i think it is him because he told the class that he got a new pencil from Mrs. Engelfried.

math was used in the crime because we had to make sure the percentages of the prints of our classes match the national percentages. in solving the crime you could use probabilty and symmetry.
p.s. i think it was mr. p

I think that the thief is in Block 6 Group 1 because the thief's fingerprint looked exactly like the left little finger on that group's sheet. I used translational symmetry by sliding the thief's fingerprint over the left little finger on the sheet to determine this.

For some weird reason i don't think it was a student. I didn't really use math (sorry) but i did use Logic!!
Okay we saw the 3 sheets of paper with 3 people with all of there 10 finger prints on each paper. But the problem was we made all of our 10 finger prints after we saw those other finger prints. So the question is: How did OJ get all 10 finger prints from B6 before we actully did it?

Actully, i might have used some math since there was time involed........

I think the suspect is Oj, Mr.P or it could even be
a self made crime So it could be Mrs. Engelfried too....

Math was used in this in the form of probability. There are 36 fingerprints, so 1/36. Three types of fingerprints, arches, loops, and whorls. 5/36, or 13% of the fingerprints were arches. 21/36, or 58% of the fingerprints were loops. 10/36, or 28% of the fingerprints were arches. Based on the evidence, the suspect has a loop for a fingerprint, and is in Ms. Engelfrieds 6th period class. So who is it?

i think that mr.p did it because he never lends anyonne pencils. yyur also not allowed to ask him questions for like the first 20 mins of class.

I used logical thinkin and process of elimination.

i think that mr. p did it he has like a billion pencils and he never lends them also because yyur not aloud to ask questions for like the first 20 mins of class

we used probability to find out who was the pencil theif. like oj told us the fingerprints were taken the day before so the only way to know who actually stole the pencils is to compare the fingerprint they gave us in class to our own that we did later on.

P.S. the real theif is mr. p. because he told us that he gets all his pencils from ms. engelfried

I personally do not really now who it was except for the fact that it was some one in B-6. Symetry was used as well as probably probability. The ridges of the finger print most definatley has a match so symmetry woujld be used here in order to find the correct one. I am almost possitive it is not me but as I have seen no one else's finger prints except for Reika, Connor, and a few other people's I cannot say who it is except that it is not one of them. Probability would be used in findinf the possibility of who's finger it is. Since we know it is in B-6 and I'm pretty sure it's on the sheet that says "6 Block Group 2 B Day"(I think), I think the probability becomes 1/10.

I don't know if this is right but it's what I think so... There's my blog :D

IIIIII used process of elimination, and probability when you have a few choices it is easy to figure it out...

Tyree pretty much said everything that i would have said so i dont really have to say any thing else

peace out girl scout!!

Alexandra :)- I think It was Mr. P. i think this because he has alot of new pencils he has been giving out. Also we used math in this because we were finding the probability of the different finger prints. The finger print that i found was the one that matched up was the left little finger.

I think it was Officer Jason because nobody suspects the person leading the witch hunt. He said to himself "How 'bout I steal all of Ms. Englefried's pencils then cover it up with some lab where I take a bunch of kids fingerprints and blame it on them".

I think that it was Evan Garcia and Mr.P because Mr. P always says he "gets" his pencils from Ms.Engelfried. It isn't Mr.Daly because he always has pencils in a drawer. And it isn't Mrs.Balak because she's too innocent. Evan has the exact same finger print! I was a witness!! I examined the 2 finger prints and deciphered that Evan is also the thief! I think they're working together to steal all the pencils of 8th grade teachers...maybe even hiring 8th graders to steal them.

im so sorry ms.endelfried this is horrible! why would anyone want to steel your pencils i mean they are valuable, esecially in math. well here is what i think...mr.daly definetally couldnt have done it because he has a drawer full of mechanical pencils in his desk so he dosent need them. mr.patorius is a suspect in my point of veiw becuase just the other day he had a beaker full of brand new pencils that came out of no where! i mean seriously that just flashes a red light...hey look at all these nice new pencils i have (that i stole ms.engelfried! muah haha) so that is exactally what i think. sorry mr.pastorius but i think u have been caught! better luck next time -kayla hook :)

I think it was someone in Ms. engelfrieds period 6 class who commited the crime becuase I matched the fingerprint I was given in class with another fngerprint in period 6 Group 1. I used symmetry and probability to solve this crime.

i believe that it was Mr.P cuz he always has pencils and is always giving them away and he has told me many times that he is not a nice person...but if he is not nice why would he give them out just like that???? and where do those pencils come from????
